Challenge

VTubing on Linux is possible with the widely-used OpenSeeFace face tracker, but installation and setup require deep technical knowledge and intensive terminal use. For most users, a user-friendly solution is missing that lowers the barriers to entry.

Solution

We developed a wrapper application as a Flatpak that provides OpenSeeFace in a desktop- and distribution-independent way and delivers it fully pre-installed. No manual setup or terminal work required. With an intuitive graphical interface, users can easily control the face tracker without having to memorize complex command-line commands.

Simple Face Tracking for VTubing on Linux with Graphical Interface – OpenSeeFace Without Terminal.

Facetracker is a user-friendly application for VTubers on Linux that enables real-time facial recognition and tracking for virtual characters. With this application, content creators can feed their facial movements, expressions, and head position live into their VTubing software. Ideal for streaming and content production.

VTubing on Linux has been fraught with significant obstacles. While there is a powerful open-source face tracker called OpenSeeFace, its installation and setup require comprehensive technical knowledge and intensive command-line work. This discouraged many interested creators, as a user-friendly solution was lacking. The barriers to entry were simply too high. Facetracker solves these problems through an intelligent wrapper application in Flatpak format. OpenSeeFace is already fully integrated and pre-installed, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual setup. The application works independently of desktop environment and distribution on all Linux systems. An intuitive graphical interface allows users to easily configure and control the face tracker without typing a single terminal command. This finally makes VTubing on Linux accessible to everyone.
